Baguio Hotels, Transient Houses & Travel Guide

Baguio Hotels are in demand during the dry season in the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” because of its cool climate the entire year. But beyond its cold temperature is a mountainous landscape that is filled with several breathtaking sceneries and charming tourist attractions. You can enjoy the perks of a city here while experiencing a nature-rich provincial atmosphere at the same time. The temperature of this mountain city is 8 degrees Celsius lower than most parts of the country.

Exploring Baguio City

Baguio City also gives you a feel of what it’s like in a foreign country. The houses have fireplaces, the most common tree are pine trees, people are dressed differently and western fruits like strawberries, lemons, oranges, etc. are grown here. If there was a direct flight from Europe to Baguio City, some people might wonder and ask, “Is this really a tropical country?”

Uniquely Baguio

When we arrived at our rented transient house, we quickly explored the whole place and didn’t see any air conditioners or electric fans. I know this city is cold but I never expected it to be cold the whole year even at the peak of summer. As a coffee lover, it’s really great because I can enjoy drinking hot coffee in the open at any time of the day.

Gigantic Lion’s Head

In spite of the fact that it’s located inside Benguet, Baguio City is not officially part of Benguet since the city’s charter was enacted in 1909. But somehow, it’s still informally considered as part of Benguet for statistical convenience.

Getting to Baguio City

From Metro Manila:

Taking the bus. Victory Liner has a lot of bus trips going to Baguio from Pasay, Cubao or Caloocan. The trips are almost hourly. They start from 12:15 AM to 11:30 AM. A regular Aircon bus fare is P445.00 while a Deluxe bus fare is P715.00. The trip usually takes 6 hours. Please check the link of Victory Liner’s Baguio trips below for the updated schedules and rates.

https://www.victoryliner.com/

After reaching Baguio City’s bus terminal, you can tour the place by riding a taxi cab or a jeepney.

Using your own vehicle. Since we traveled as a family, we found it practical to use an SUV so we can easily move from one tourist spot to another. The gas price for our whole tour costs around P4,000.00 which includes the round-trip travel from Metro Manila to Baguio. I’m sure it would cost much less with diesel.

Outside Luzon:

If you’re outside Luzon, you can check out the websites of the airlines below to see which one offers the best price for a trip going to Metro Manila.

Cebu Pacific
Philippine Airlines

After reaching Metro Manila you can get to Baguio City by following the instructions above or you can also rent a van or a car using the website below.

https://www.transaviarentacar.com/

Explorer’s tip:

If you travel in a large group, getting a transient house and sharing fees would be the most cost-effective way to stay in Baguio City. There were 10 of us during our trip but we only had to pay P3,500.00 per night for our 3 days 2 nights stay. It was a big house with four rooms, a large living room and a dining room which includes free water, the use of the kitchen and cooking utensils. But if you’re a couple on a honeymoon, getting a hotel room which costs around P600.00++ overnight would be more practical. Another option is to get a transient room which costs 250 per head.

If you want to avoid heavy traffic during your stay, make sure to pick dates outside the Panagbenga Flower Festival season because the streets are full of parades. But if you love parades and don’t mind the traffic, the Panagbenga Flower Festival usually starts on February 1 and ends on March 4.

    • Hi Jenny,

I’m sorry because I wasn’t blogging yet during our stay here so I failed to note the owner’s name and contact number.

It was my father’s friend who helped us find the transient house. When we tried contacting his friend, he told us that he can’t find the name and contact number of the owner. If ever he finds it later and send it to us, I’ll add it in our list and update you.

  2. Hi. Would you know which of this places offer like budget price for group of 6? Would love to hear your response. Thanks!

    • Hi Kaye,

Unfortunately, I don’t know any transient house which is good for 6 people only and has a lower rent cost compared to a transient house for 10 people. You can try bargaining with the owners of the transient houses I posted here since you’re not maximizing all of the rooms.

  3. One of things I failed to do when I visited Baguio back in 2010 was to take some snaps of the place. My camera ran out of battery that’s why.

Thanks for making me remember some of its beautiful, vibrant spots.

    • Hi Sony,

That kind of disaster happened to us as well during our Puerto Princessa underground river trip. Our camera’s faulty battery status bar gave us the wrong impression that the battery is still full but then the moment we went inside the underground river, the red low-battery light started flashing and we’re unable to take shots anymore.

It’s nice to know you’ve enjoyed checking out our pictures.

Would you happen to know if there are transient homes in Tublay, Benguet? If not, how about in La Trinidad? Please include rates if possible.

  8. could u pls suggest an “affordable” place for us to stay for 2 nights/1 day, probably w/ a parking area. we are 7 & planning to go to baguio last week of may. thank you.

    • Hi Aidan,

The most cost-effective option that I can only see for 7 people are transient houses which costs around P3,500.00 per night. These will have parking areas and have kitchens where you can cook your own food. Please check the transient houses options that I posted and try to call the owners to negotiate a lower price. Thanks! :)
